Wow, what did Drew say? :-)

Bobby Jackson is a free agent. Given that he's 1) Cheap, and 2) A veteran PG, I wouldn't be surprised if his name comes up at some point.

I was retarded, as usual, mentioning Felton and Sessions when they're already on the list. Nothing big.

Who least deserves to be in the NBA (not counting Shelden)? That's who the Hawks will sign.

call me crazy but I wouldn't mind bringing Sheldon back as a forth big man, if we can get him cheaply (anything over 1 million and I'm out).

His rebound rate is pretty good, and I think he can play 15 minutes a night and give us some depth. And we know he's a good guy that will try hard. There are worse players.

He sucks for a 5th pick, but he's pretty decent as a rebounder/defender/enforcer off the bench.

Does anyone know what kind of drugs Chris Anderson was doing? I would like him on the Hawks.

If he's a heroin junkee I don't want to give him any money, but if it's just weed i don't think it's a problem. I remember hearing that the only teams he could go to where the Nuggets and the Hornets because those were the only places where he had "support systems", so I'm thinking its the former.

Picture him and Zaza together, now picture the Hanson brothers from Slap Shot, and you'll see where I'm going with this : )

How happy they would make Drew is reason enough to sign them imo.

Birdman got suspended for something serious, it wasn't Mary Jane. He was basically suspended two years for drug use. The basic rumor is heroin/meth/PCP.
Something pretty nutty, but I wouldn't mind him playing for us. He plays hard.

Personally, I want the team to get a bit tougher off the bench, much in the vein of Zaza. Just not enough fire and passion on this team for my taste.

I don't know what Birdman makes, but his profile is pretty visible and he might cost a bit. I would think we have to choose between he and Zaza, and Zaza is less exciting but more consistent and fundamentally sound.

Don't get me wrong, I love Anderson for his work ethic, energy, rebounding, etc., but he does have a hard time staying on his feet and maintaining proper position--much like another interior defender I can think of. I can't decide if I would want him more than Zaza, though having both would be pretty amazing.

It's so hard to say what we can add to our team since we don't really know what price everyone will sign for. But in this economic climate it's possible we could get Marvin, Bibby, Zaza and Anderson for 25 million.

If we can get Bibby, Zaza, and Anderson for 15 million, we'd still have plenty of money to sign Marvin.

PG Bibby/Teague/Greasy
SG Joe/Crawford(gets 30 minutes)
SF Marvin/Evans/random scrub
PF Smith/Anderson/random scrub
C Horford/Zaza/Randolf "sad clown"
Morris

A strong 9 man rotation. Joe doesn't have to play 40 minutes a night. Energy, scoring, shooting, rebounding, blocks, Defense, size and effort of the bench. Lots of pieces (and contracts)to make a trade that could put us over the top. The Bash brothers from D2 waiting to come in and bust some heads. Looks like an awesome team to follow to me. Hell we might even be a contender.

It is probably a Pipe dream, but it sure is fun to think about.

I just think someone nicknamed the Birdman should play in the ATL. He and Spirit would get along famously.

Now that Villaneuva's a free agent, it'd be nice to see them make a run at him, but with Cleveland nipping at his heels, that seems unlikely. And it would give us a steady stream of Uncle Fester jokes.

Throw the whole midlevel at Charlie V and the Birdman. First to accept gets it.

hey thirdfalon... i love the Greasy reference... i was always though i was cool by yelling "rio" at the games everytime he entered.. but i will no yell for "greasy" (c)Acie Law IV

thirdfalcon said...

I think if you can't yell Greasy at Hawks games your probably a bad person, it's right up there with not liking dogs, and hating "the Shawshank Redemption."

Great info btw Bret. You sir are a gentleman and a scholar.

Looks like you might need to update your blog according to Sekou. I was pretty surprised , but he's throwing around names like Sheed, and Mcdice, and Millsap.

I'll believe that when one of them is in uniform, but if Sekou said it there must be something to it

jrauch said...

I've had a long-standing man crush on the Sheed, and I'd like to see him here.

Naturally, he'd probably punch Mike Woodson in the first week, but it would be better than his last one game stint here.

Millsap's going to want too much money, and Charlie V can't play D. We've got enough guys who can't/won't do that as is.

rbubp said...

Milsap would be a dream, but he will likely be too expensive. 'Sheed and McDyess are good only if we really think we're going to make a run this year.

Despite my negativity about what's available and how we go about getting it, I am really excited about the Hawks being a player in the free agent market. It wasn't too long ago that all we could be was a bargaining chip for players seeking new contracts.

jrauch said...

I don't know how much that stance has changed though, rbubp.

Everything I see and read about the Hawks and potential free agent activity seems to list them as a second or third option for players looking to land with one of the "legit" contenders. So maybe we are around just to drum up interest, and price, for some of these guys.
