Monday Morning Links

In the AJC, Michael Cunningham takes stock of the Hawks at the half-way point (plus one) of the season.

At Basketball Prospectus, Kevin Pelton taps Josh Smith and Al Horford for reserve spots on the All-Star team.

At Hardwood Paroxysm, Matt Moore graphs usage and PER.

So last night I was sorta debating Peachtreehoops about Jamal and Joe. I'd like your thoughts Bret. I don't think Joe is so much better than Jamal that he should be the guard on this team going to the All Star game. What do you think?

I believe Jamal passed Joe in scoring rate Friday night and he's shot a higher percentage so far this season but there are good reasons (passing, rebounding, defending) that Joe's played a lot more minutes than Jamal.

I looked back at Flip's numbers from last year this weekend (future blog post) and Jamal is more productive than Flip was but I think the big difference between this season and last (and it still doesn't seem right that they were 26-16 at this point last year and the difference is only a 2 game improvement) is Smith and Horford.

I totally agree Smith and Horford are the biggest difference. The record might actually be better if our guards acknowledged that little fact. I suppose you should email them some stats Bret! Are you going to the game Friday? As far as Jamal and Joe, I think Jamal has come up big in crunch time in some big games. It shouldn't be discounted. I think all things considered, I wouldn't be horribly upset if he made it over Joe. Joe would more than likely disagree. Haha. Do you think the Hawks should get in on these Amare Stoudemire trade talks?

I don't think they could get Amare from Phoenix without giving up Josh Smith. If there's some sort of 3-team deal that gets Amare plus a third guard for Marvin and Jamal, I think Sund would have to consider it but I don't think it's realistic.

Yeah, I don't think Phoenix would take Marv and his 5 years and i don't think we should trade Josh for Amare. Josh does a little bit of everything and he's a bit younger. Oh, and he has better knees. But, if they could work out a deal that keeps Josh and Al, they should go for it!

Great job on your end of the AJC piece, Bret!

If PHX were in the dumper, record-wise, we might be able to steal someone like Amare away w/o yielding Smoove or Horfy--sort of like when we offered next to nothing for Bibby from SAC.
