Second Round, No Bust: A Pre-Recap

Before delving into the game, compiling the relevant quotes from the parties involved, and surveying the range of opinion I'd like to take a brief moment to acknowledge the significance both of the Atlanta Hawks improving to the point that they can create expectations and fulfill those expectations.

The Atlanta Hawks blew out the Miami Heat four times in a seven-game series and the season continues. No one expects the Hawks to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers and advance to the conference finals but there is no reason not to expect the Hawks to compete throughout the series.

The opportunity to repay the faith of their fans and to prove doubters wrong once again awaits. I certainly hope they take it.

I wouldn't be surprised, now that the pressure of meeting goals and expectations is met (getting the 4th seed to win the 1st round), the Hawks could possibly play more consistently than in the first round. The oft talked about experience against Boston last year may be more useful in this one as they try to take one in Cleveland.

Totally agree with you, Ben. The role we're about to be slung into provides the same opportunity to use the "us against the world" mantra as last year. Wholly different scenario from a series you're supposed to win.

Good write-up on the Dime once again, Bret. Don't get too many of those opportunities in the regular season!
