OTHER PERSPECTIVES: Hot Hot Hoops

PREVIOUSLY, THE MIAMI HEAT...blew out the Houston Rockets (less Trevor Ariza and Kyle Lowry) 99-66 in Miami last night to break a five-game losing streak. It was only Miami's second win in their last nine games.

Somewhat interestingly (and of extraordinarily marginal meaning as I can't find a quick way to compare this to other teams this season or in seasons past) the Heat, who have outscored opponents by just 27 points total over the course of 52 games so far this season, have won five and lost four games by a margin of 27 points or more.

The Hawks beat the Heat 105-90 in the previous meeting in Atlanta on November 18th. Miami won 92-75 at home on January 4th.

Consider this an open thread for all pre-game, in-game, and post-game (but pre-recap) thoughts.

The Miami Heat are an average team with an extremely wide variance.

1) The result of relying heavily upon a single star player?

2) The uncertainty when mixing inexperienced players (Michael Beasley, Mario Chalmers, Dorrell Wright) with older players (O'Neal, Haslem, Richardson).

1) I think Chalmers has to get his share of the blame for Spoelstra being unable or unwilling to use him ahead of first Arroyo, then Alston.

2) Jermaine O'Neal is a shell of his former self but it's still a significant drop-off from him to Anthony and Magliore.

3) Teams may be more likely to pack it in after a night out in Miami.
