Atlanta Hawks Draft Keith Benson

There's no hope of a Summer League to make slightly less premature but far more certain pronouncements regarding Keith Benson, so I'll keep this brief. Benson blocked a ton of shots and posted fine defensive rebound rates at Oakland. Given those two facts and the league in which he played, his offensive rebound and steal rates are a concern.

He's skinny and he'll be 23-years-old whenever the 2011-12 season commences. His scoring rate, his age and his superior block rate in college makes him a better back-end of the rotation prospect than the equally unguaranteed Magnum Rolle.

Keep expectations modest and hope for some rookie and proven young professional free agent action to fill out the roster.

At least the Hawks get to keep Kirk Hinrich for another year! I mean, the chances that either Jordan Crawford or Chris Singleton would be useful on this superior, ECF-motivated roster is unthinkable.

It's time to trade Josh Smith and re-sign Jamal. Come on Rick Sund, make it happen.

I still think Selby should have been the pick.

His upside is far higher than Benson's, and there's no risk picking someone that talented, that late in the draft.

He can't be worse than Josh Powell. That's what I'm hanging my hat on.

I attended OU for two years and watched nearly every OU home game in person during Benson's frosh and soph season.

He's got a high ceiling, but must put on some weight and really strengthen his core and legs.

Hehasn't been playing basketball that long..he only averaged 5 pts his senior season in high school, then sprouted up, redshirted his first year in school.

He's got great touch with either hand and is very capable of hitting jump shots and threes.

Some say he has a low motor, but really I think this is being mistaken for Benson's general low key nature. He's not an outgoing guy and hardly shows emotion, but he does play hard and runs the floor like a deer.

Steven Hunter is probably worst case scenerio, but I think he'll end up between a Hunter and a Camby.
